Larry C. Reynolds was born on
1/13/45 in Springfield, Mo. He was
raised on a farm near Gainesville,
Mo, attending school near his home
in a one room school house, then
graduated from High School in
Gainesville in 1963. He moved to
Springfield, Mo. shortly after
graduation and started work for the
Ozark News Agency, where he was
employed when he joined the U.S.
Army in July of 1965. He took Basic
Training in Ft. Wood Mo. Then went
to school as Heavy Equipment
Mechanic in Ft. Belvoir, Va. After 6
months training he was assigned to
Ft. Campbell, Ky. Larry left the
Army in 1968, with the rank of SP/5
E5. Shortly after leaving the Army,
Larry was employed by Kraft Foods,
Springfield, Mo. Where he retired
after over 32 years of service.
During this time he returned to
school, attending SMSU (now MSU)
majoring in Business Administration.
Larry started his Masonic Career
in Robert Burns Lodge # 496,
Gainesville, Mo. by being elected
and receiving his First degree in
April, of 1969, being passed in May,
1969, and raised to the degree of
Master Mason in June of 1969. Larry
was "raised" by W.B. A.P.
Martin, his uncle, who had 7 nephews
who were Masons, and A.P.
"raised" all Seven. He
transferred his membership to
Henderson Lodge # 477 in 1971 where
he served as Worshipful Master in
1985 and again in 2000. Larry and
Bettie joined Bethel Chapter # 281,
OES in 1971, becoming 25 year plus
members.
Larry was appointed District
Deputy Grand Master of the Old 45th
District in 1988 by M.W. Bro. Robert
Jenkins, in which office he served
for 6 years. In 1992, M.W. Bro.
Frank Arnold, appointed him to the
Committee on Masonic Education,
where he served as Director of the
Achievement Award from 1995 to 2003.
Larry also served as Chairman of the
Education committee for M.W. Bro.s
Glenn Means and Jimmie D. Lee.
M.W.Bro. Lee appointed Larry as
Chairman of the Distungished Guest
Committee for his Grand Lodge
Communication. Larry also served on
Scholarship, Long Range Planning,
Public Relations, and several
special committees. He is currently
in line to become president of the
Midwest Conference on Masonic
Education in 2010.
In 2003, M.W. Bro. Jimmie D. Lee,
then president of the Masonic Home
Board, asked Larry to fill in for
the Director of Development for the
Masonic Home. During the next 17
Months Larry visited over 120
different Lodges as well as Scottish
Rite Clubs, Shrine Clubs and others,
to bring the important message from
our Great Charity-The Masonic Home.
As Larry became part of the
Advancing Line for the Grand Lodge
he went on the Board of the Masonic
Childrens Foundation where he served
as President in 2004-2005. Under R.
W. Bro. Rocky Weaver's leadership
what we now know as the MOCHIP
Program was born and Larry says one
of his greatest pleasures was
helping to get the Foundation off
the Ground. By virture of his office
as Senior Grand Deacon, Larry very
proudly joined the Masonic Home
Board in 2005.
In 1988, Larry petitioned Valley
of Joplin of the Scottish Rite. He
received the Degrees and shortly
joined the Cast of the 9-10-11
Degree and became Director of the
13th Degree. He was honored in 2001
by being invested with the KCCH,
which he greatly treasures. Larry
joined the Chapter of the York Rite
in 1971, completing his York Degrees
in 2005. In 2007, he was honored by
the investment of the Red Cross of
Constantine from the York Rite of
Springfield, Mo. R.W. Bro. John
Siscel, asked Larry to join the
advancing Line for the Missouri
Lodge of Research, where he became
Worshipful Master of the LOR in
2005. Larry also served as Grand
Orator for Past Grand Masters Jim
Cobban, Don Scott, Jeff Nations, and
Wilfred Soutiea. He says that those
years proved invaluable for what was
to come. In 2003, M.W. Bro. Jimmie
D. Lee chose Larry as his
appointment for the Advancing Grand
Line.
Larry met his Wife Bettie Jean
Smith in January 1964 while she was
a Student Nurse at Burge School of
Nursing. They were Married in
Springfield, Mo. in May of 1966
before Larry was shipped to Viet Nam
in September of 1966. Their
Daughter, Deanna, was born in 1969
and she blessed then with two
Grandsons, Austin, born in 2001, and
Nathan, born in 2004.
Larry and Bettie worked as youth
Ministers and Sunday School teachers
for several years while attending
Church in Springfield, Mo. At the
present time they attend Victory Bab.
Church of Ozark, Mo. They currently
reside on a small Five Acre Farm
outside Rogersville, Mo. Both enjoy
having the time to watch their
"Grand Guys" growing and
playing in their big yard. Bettie
and Larry also enjoy reading,
travel, and just being outside.
Larry also enjoys singing and
sometimes acting as M.C. for a local
Country and Western Band, Howard
Self and the Volunteers. They just
recently purchased a 5th Wheel
Travel Trailer which they say they
will use MORE when Larry's tour in
the Grand Line ends.
